Looking for a 5-passenger vehicle that reigns supreme when it comes to ‘riding green’? It literally doesn’t get better than the Ioniq. Literally…

All right. So, maybe you’re in the market for an efficiency-focused car with an affordable price tag. If so, the 2020 Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid definitely deserves a look! But, what exactly makes the Ioniq Hybrid so special? Why not just go for the trend-setting Toyota Prius Hybrid or the well-acclaimed Honda Insight Hybrid? Well… There’s one simple answer. Repeat after us,

“Most Fuel-Efficient!”

Yes! The 2020 Ioniq Hybrid is the most fuel-efficient new car in America based on EPA-estimated combined MPG. That’s something no other new car can claim! And that’s a fact.

Looking past fuel efficiency, the 2020 Ioniq Hybrid also manages to boast a rather spacious cabin for up to 5-passengers. On paper, the Ioniq packs a total passenger volume of about 96 cubic feet of space. For comparison, that is about 3 cubic feet more than its most direct competitor: the 2020 Toyota Prius. Yes! We know! “Three cubic feet” is not a HUGE difference… But, it is class-competitive nevertheless. Honestly, in our opinion, the Ioniq is definitely straddling the line between compact-class cars and mid-size-class cars in terms of interior dimensions.

All Ioniq Hybrid’s, for 2020, will be powered by a 1.6-Liter GDI 4-Cylinder engine and 32kW electric motor. Both of these power sources work together to produce a combined 139 horsepower sent to only the front wheels (AWD unavailable). Unlike the majority of its competitors, the Ioniq Hybrid surprisingly does not use a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), instead, it comes equipped with a 6-speed Dual-Clutch Transmission (DCT).

All of this ‘eco-engineered’ tech (branded as Blue Drive) works hand-in-hand to lunge the Ioniq Hybrid from 0mph to 60mph in just around 9 seconds! Ok. Let’s face it… While you may not be winning any drag races with this powertrain setup, you’ll definitely be winning when it comes to the fuel pump. Woot! Woot!

As mentioned previously, when it comes to fuel economy, the 2020 Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid truly reigns supreme thanks to it being named “The Most Fuel-Efficient Car in America”. For your convenience, please refer to the table below:

Also, when it comes to fuel tank capacity, the Ioniq Hybrid can store up to 11.9-gallons of burnable juice.

QUICK MARCUS MATH: Theoretically, after some quick number crunching, the Ioniq Hybrid Blue should be able to achieve close to a staggering 700 miles of range on one full tank of gas before a refill is needed (in the most ideal driving conditions).

Cargo Versatility

Thanks to the Ioniq’s rear hatchback design, it manages to squeeze out a rather commendable amount of trunk space: 26.5-cubic feet of space, to be exact.

Interestingly, Hyundai has yet to disclose the exact trunk volume with the rear seats folded, but we’d expect the Ioniq’s cargo area to be similarly sized to its main competitor: the Prius (which boasts roughly 50-cubic feet of space with the rear seats folded down).

Safety

As far as safety tech goes, Hyundai packs every 2020 Ioniq Hybrid with an extremely impressive list of STANDARD safety tech (especially for a car with a sub-$25,000 starting price). Some notable STANDARD safety technologies include:

  • Driver Attention Warning
  • Forward-Collision Avoidance Assist
  • Lane-Keeping Assist
  • Automatic High Beam Assist

Surprisingly, Hyundai reserves Blind-Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert for higher-end trim levels. Hopefully, Hyundai considers pushing those two features onto the ‘standard equipment list’ for the upcoming 2021 model year.

And when the least expected happens, you can rest assured that you and your fellow passengers will be in good hands. This is because the 2020 Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid earns a Top Safety Pick from the IIHS for 2020.

Multi-Media Connectivity & In-Car Entertainment

New for 2020 is an updated version of Hyundai’s BlueLink infotainment system which now comes in two much larger screen sizes. Lower-end models will receive a standard 8-inch touchscreen, while the range-topping Limited model will feature an optional 10.25-inch version. Additionally, the updated UI supports an applaudable amount of standard tech which will surely keep you and your passengers well entertained. Some of the many STANDARD entertainment goodies include:

  • Android Auto
  • Apple CarPlay
  • Amazon Alexa
  • Sirius XM radio

Oh! And I gotta feeling you’ll have a blast jammin’ out to your favorite tunes via the optional 8-speaker Harmon Kardon Premium Audio System w/ Clari-Fi Technology.

All right. Now it’s time to shine… Turn up the speakers, put your hands up in the air, and sing along, “I GOTTA FEELING! WOOOHOOO! THAT TONIGHT’S GONNA BE A GOOD NIGHT!”
