On paper, the Ioniq packs a total passenger volume of about 96 cubic feet of space. For comparison, that is about 3 cubic feet more than its most direct competitor: the 2020 Toyota Prius. Yes! Honestly, in our opinion, the Ioniq is definitely straddling the line between compact-class cars and mid-size-class cars in terms of interior dimensions.

Powertrain / Fuel Efficiency / Range

All Ioniq Hybrid’s, for 2020, will be powered by a 1.6-Liter GDI 4-Cylinder engine and 32kW electric motor. Both of these power sources work together to produce a combined 139 horsepower sent to only the front wheels (AWD unavailable). Unlike the majority of its competitors, the Ioniq Hybrid surprisingly does not use a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), instead, it comes equipped with a 6-speed Dual-Clutch Transmission (DCT).

All of this ‘eco-engineered’ tech (branded as Blue Drive) works hand-in-hand to lunge the Ioniq Hybrid from 0mph to 60mph in just around 9 seconds! Ok. Let’s face it… While you may not be winning any drag races with this powertrain setup, you’ll definitely be winning when it comes to the fuel pump. Woot! Woot!

As mentioned previously, when it comes to fuel economy, the 2020 Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid truly reigns supreme thanks to it being named “The Most Fuel-Efficient Car in America”. For your convenience, please refer to the table below:

Cargo Versatility

Thanks to the Ioniq’s rear hatchback design, it manages to squeeze out a rather commendable amount of trunk space: 26.5-cubic feet of space, to be exact.

Interestingly, Hyundai has yet to disclose the exact trunk volume with the rear seats folded, but we’d expect the Ioniq’s cargo area to be similarly sized to its main competitor: the Prius (which boasts roughly 50-cubic feet of space with the rear seats folded down).

Safety

As far as safety tech goes, Hyundai packs every 2020 Ioniq Hybrid with an extremely impressive list of STANDARD safety tech (especially for a car with a sub-$25,000 starting price). Some notable STANDARD safety technologies include:

New for 2020 is an updated version of Hyundai’s BlueLink infotainment system which now comes in two much larger screen sizes.
